[Captain's Quarters]

Abigail held up the four wedding passes, "Guess we're going to Bellerophon...might need Charity to give me a few lessons in etiquette and dress me." She gave him a lopsided grin, at least someone would get some fun out of it.

Jax smiled..."Actually Miss Charity might prove very helpful on this little charade of ours." Jax paused as if suddenly in deep thought. "That reminds me, a couple days back someone was seeking passage to Bellerophon to attend this very wedding, and was offering an extra invite as partial payment. We could sure use that." Jax hopped to his feet..."Let me get a wave off  to her now and see if she's still interested, you can let Reyes know we are headed to Newhall post-haste."

Abigail nodded, glad that they finally had a heading, but a little disconcerted with what they would be grabbing.  She wasn't sure the crew would be too keen on it either especially the good doctor. That woman had far too good of a heart to be on this boat of thieves and criminals.  It was hard to believe that she ever was involved with their pilot, speaking of...Abigail picked up the comms and communicated to the bridge, "Alright Amorru, get your head out of your arse, let's head over to Newhall...We have a passenger to pickup."

She let go of the unit and looked back at Jax, "Just for the record, even I wouldn't try to sell let alone take someone's organs away...This one is a little iffy in my books...if it matters. We should probably keep the crew out of the loop." She didn't like lying but there was no way everyone would be okay with this job.

Amorru still smiled as Charity asked him her question, imagining the look on Grace's face as she stumbled around the infirmary, knocking about all her painstakingly sorted and organized cabinets and shelves. "Out here? What's not? You comfy back there?" Reyes didn't bother turning his head. As sparkly and brilliant as she became accustomed to making herself over the years, Charity couldn't compare to the view ahead of him.

Quote from: Jax on June 26, 2018, 07:36:34 PM"Reyes, lets do a slow orbit of Greenleaf to make sure we aren't being trailed....I'll get you a destination in short order."

"Aye, Cap'n. Sooner the better, you ask me. Which you didn't. Figure you shoulda. Entering Greenleaf's orbit in t minus 45 seconds. Just gonna - y'know - ease on in." Amorru punched in a command to level off the ship as it drifted into Greenleaf's gravitational pull, then another to provide just enough burn to keep from getting dragged in.

Quote from: Artemis Graham on July 01, 2018, 07:29:42 PM"Nice flying stud,"

"Always is." Amorru replied to Art's flat statement. Not knowing her well enough to tell the difference between sincerity and sarcasm yet, Amorru just assumed she was impressed. After all, why shouldn't she be? Hearing footfall as she stepped away, Amorru turned from one fine view in search of another. As Art exited the bridge, his eyes settled on Charity. "How ya holdin' up there, guv'ness? Figure ya look fit to be sick."

Amorru's eyes turned to slits as he rounded back toward the Black. "Sure, sure. You get yours outta the Cap'n's, and I'll take care of mine." Pulling up a list of preset coordinates, he found Newhall's location and plotted a fast vector. "Another passenger? How pleasant. Who's this one runnin' from?"

"Out here? What's not? You comfy back there?" he asked.

The debutante didn't look very convinced by his answer, but she set her fan on her lap, laid his coat over that, and got to buckling herself into the seat. The jerk had finished and the flight was smooth but she didn't feel like if she stood up again, she'd be very stable. Charity looked down, frowning at the buckle and trying to jam it into place over and over again, missing or putting it in backward every time. "I'm plenty 'comfy'," she answered under her breath, a stray curl sliding free of the bow behind her head to frame her face.

A set of feet entered her peripheral vision and Charity looked up at Jo as the tried to sneak out, her hands pausing in their efforts to buckle herself. Her gaze narrowed and she thought about reaching out to stop the other woman, but didn't trust herself on her feet. "I'll come visit you later," she assured the smaller woman, "with some options for dresses," she clarified, smiling winningly up at the gymnast/hacker/pixie. "Once the floor stops moving..." she added in a soft murmur.

"Now Charity, remember the wise words of debutantes past... If you're going to boot: avoid the dress, shoes and hair. And I'd make my own addition and say avoid the consoles too. If you can remember that you're golden," Art told her, imparting a wisdom Charity did not remember learning. But she smiled up at the blonde in thanks and nodded her chin down in some sign of understanding. She was pretty sure this wisdom hadn't taken into account the fact that people in the black drank engine fuel...

"How ya holdin' up there, guv'ness? Figure ya look fit to be sick," Amorru incorrectly observed!

"I am no such thing," she assured him, sighing and giving up on the seatbelt. Charity slapped her hands down on his coat in defeat and looked back at him with a frown. She blew upward a bit in an attempt to get the curl off her face, still staring at him. When he turned around, she forced herself to stand, gasping when everything fell out of her lap. How rude. Scrambling to catch both the fan and the coat, Charity stumbled forward until she was standing next to Reyes again.

"Another passenger? How pleasant. Who's this one runnin' from?" he asked.

"I'm sure they're not running from anyone, like the other passenger on board. She's probably on vacation as well," Charity guessed, eyeing Amorru and setting a free hand on her hip carefully. "Some people take those."

Leaning closer, Charity set her fingertip against the back clasp of his necklace, "Why do you have a key around your neck?" she asked him with raised brows, her voice low in a conspiratory whisper. Now that they didn't have an audience and she was slowly working through the alcohol, she was just drunk enough to feel like asking the question she hadn't asked before.

"I'll come visit you later, with some options for dresses. Once the floor stops moving..."

Jo winced visibly at the prospect of a later visit regarding dresses as Art passed by her, but was relieved to see Charity wasn't about to try and haul her off and go through dress upon dress attempting to find one in even remotely her size. It wasn't likely they were short enough. The thought alone made Jo snicker to herself as she opted to make her way out of the bridge, leaving the two finer dressed folks to whatever had them occupied. Whatever it was, she didn't feel the need to stick around and find out for fear of Charity suddenly changing her mind about the dresses.

Swinging her case so it was behind her, she grasped the handle with both hands and started back towards her room. Half bouncing steps took her along as her mind began to go over the footage captured from the ships cameras and the information she gathered while in there. Something about it was nagging at her. Lips pursing, she sighed as she approached the door of her room when she spotted a ladder. "Now, what's up there, I wonder..." Large eyes followed it up, spying grate walkways above the rooms she stood among. Curiosity got the better of her and with case in hand, up she went.

Feet landing on floor, delight lit up her face. It was not unlike the little hideaway she'd gotten so fond of back home. Granted it was more open and easily accessible than the one back home, but it would be a nice little place to set up for a little while in case someone decided to come knocking on her bunk door. Dropping to the floor in the corner so she was well out of sight, her case was popped back open and set on her lap. She had some work to do and a nagging feeling to track down. Even set as far back as she was, the glow of her computer dimly lit the area around her, but that was lost to Jo as her eyes zeroed in on her screen.

Abigail looked back at Jax, "Just for the record, even I wouldn't try to sell, let alone take someone's organs away...This one is a little iffy in my books...if it matters. We should probably keep the crew out of the loop." She didn't like lying but there was no way everyone would be okay with this job.

Jax heard her as he sent the quick message to their possible new passenger. He spun around in the chair when done and just gave his XO a good long stare before speaking. "Damn... it sure is iffy, ain't it!" He was trying to come up with a reason for Anja sending them on this pursuit. ".....But we need the coin, did you see that payout number?" Jax pointed to it as he held up the paper. "So for the foreseeable future we are working on a 'need to know basis'.

Jax hopped to his feet and stuffed the pages of notes along with the invites back into the envelope. "I'll hide this for now, might have a few snoopers who I can see finding this by accident." He then stepped up to Abigail and swung his arms around her. "Don't worry....and that really sounds strange me telling you that." He gave her a quick kiss. "Now gather the crew for a meeting in the galley."

Abigail rolled her eyes at Jax, a small smile formed on her lips as he kissed her. "I'll go grab 'em." She grinned at him and shook her head at him as she left, that man. she thought to herself. She began to down towards the bridge however she saw a glow come from the loft, poking her in she found Jo, on her own.  She couldn't blame the girl, it was hard to find personal space on this boat. Abigail's personal favorite was the gym, as most leave her alone when she's going to town  on the punching bag.

Abigail knocked on the door, "Heya, meeting in the galley in a few minutes," She gave Jo a nod and took the ladder down toward the crew quarters and then the stairs to the bridge.  She liked Jo, in the few interactions she had with the woman.  She was quiet, and Abigail could appreciate that.  But there was something more to her...kind of like Art in that way.

It was quite the scene to walk into,  though finding Charity buckled into a seat did not seem like a decision anyone would've made, except for her. "Quick flying there..." Abigail took a look around the room again still uncertain what had happened in that room. "Well, if ya'll are done here, we have a quick meeting in the galley...one of you can bring this one along...and probably keep the booze away from her...she smells pretty flammable now." Abigail eyed Charity and left the room to make it back around to the galley. To account for the rest of the crew, Abigail used the comms to notify the rest of the crew that she hadn't run across,

"Make your way to the galley in 5 for a quick meeting, Capt's got us a job." Abigail set the comm down and took a seat to wait for Jax and the rest of the crew, still unsettled by the job they were about to take part in.

"Aye," Amorru muttered in agreement as he felt the dark ringlets of hair falling upon his bare shoulder once again. "Some people." He hadn't yet noticed the object attached to the chain around his neck now dangled precariously outside his vest.

Amorru's eyes narrowed suspiciously as he slyly pulled the keepsake back into position. "Oh, is that what that is? Figured it was just some fancy trinket, looked better with a proper adornment." Amorru pushed the hair out of his face, relieved by the sound of approaching boot steps.

Amorru looked around the bridge, his arms parting as his open hands motioned toward the absence of any other volunteers. His eyes went from Charity to Abigail to Charity again, and by the time they flicked back to the doorway Abigail was gone. "Now then. Suppose its time for the autopilot to earn their keep." Amorru turned back to the control, keying in the autopilot sequence and hoping the Captain's meeting would wrap before Wushu crossed paths with an errant asteroid field or one of the many dead ships floating dark in the black. Amorru unfastened himself and rose from the chair, holding his arm out to be hooked in a practiced and formal manner Charity likely found more than familiar.

Leading Charity away from the bridge, Amorru smirked as Abigail's voice called over the ship's comms. An eyebrow popped up as he looked down at his precious cargo. "Ya hear that, dutchess? Cap'n's got us a job. Some people take those."

"Oh, is that what that is? Figured it was just some fancy trinket, looked better with a proper adornment," Reyes returned.

Her lips parted in the beginnings of a sassy retort, but Abigail's entrance distracted her. Shooting him a 'I know you know I know' look, she dropped the subject. For now. She turned just a little, taking her finger off the back of Amorru's neck and innocently fiddling with her fan. She wasn't sure why she felt the need to look innocent but figured getting apparently handsy with the pilot in front of the XO was likely no no for passengers. She also vaguely recalled getting sent off the bridge...but that probably wasn't important.

"Well, if ya'll are done here, we have a quick meeting in the galley...one of you can bring this one along...and probably keep the booze away from her...she smells pretty flammable now," Abigail instructed and advised.

Why did everyone think she was drunk? Charity was more than certain that she was the most sober and rational person on this boat right now. Possibly ever. A little frustrated, the debutante began fanning herself again, looking between the pilot and the XO as he accepted the very easy job of escorting her to the galley. However, she fell in easily at his side, wrapping her arm around the one he'd offered without thinking about it.

"Ya hear that, dutchess? Cap'n's got us a job. Some people take those," he sassed.

Charity laughed softly and grinned up at him, her nose scrunched up lightly as she shook her head, acknowledging his repetition of her words. "Some people," she retorted, her eyes alight with laughter. The aristocrat allowed herself to be led out of the bridge and toward the galley, thankful for his likely reluctant support. Every so often, the ship seemed to turn upside down and were it not for his arm, she worried she might have stumbled, although it was wearing off slowly. The clicking of her heels and rustling of her skirts heralded her arrival and she was very eager for the day to be over. Wearing one outfit for so long was remarkably boring...

"Heya, meeting in the galley in a few minutes,"

Jo glanced up at the mention of a meeting ever so briefly, long enough to give the woman a nod. The look on her face clearly indicated she was deeply concentrating about whatever was on the screen in front of her and when Abigail disappeared, her attention returned to the screen. It was almost as if the fact there was going to be a meeting hadn't quite filtered through enough to make her move. In reality, she was eking out just a few more minutes on her search before she decided to set it aside and move. Of course, being drawn back into the screen, she lost track of how long she sat there and the comm announcement shook her concentration.

Quote from: Abigail Archer on July 05, 2018, 06:31:26 PM
"Make your way to the galley in 5 for a quick meeting, Capt's got us a job."

A heavy breath was blown through her lips and puffing up her cheeks in the process. Reluctantly, she set aside the device and let it continue scanning. It didn't require her to watch the scan happening; that was just her habit. Standing, she moved to the ladder, turned and started down gingerly. Half way down, she jumped from the ladder to the floor and headed towards the galley. From the stairs to the bridge, she thought she could hear footsteps but she figured they were headed where she was and decided to move on in and find a seat. Offering up a cheery smile to Abigail, Jo took a seat near the woman finding she was able to swing her feet idly as she waited for the rest of the crew to show up.

Jax

Jax strolled in the galley as if nothing was wrong....they had a job to do, the job paid, that's all he needed to focus on. He noticed he had beat some of the crew to the meeting as he swung by the counter to get himself a bottle of water. He leaned against the counter and cracked the top off and took a good long guzzle. When done he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand before looking toward Abigail and Jo. "Good try there Miss Blaylocke, didn't know we'd be going up against the Moda Tong.....sorry about that." Jax offered. Then looking around the room..."Where is everyone? ....ruttin' ship ain't that big now is it?"

Emit Culpepper

Emit,  stepped through the entrance to the Galley almost on cue as the Captain remarked about where the crew was.

With a quick head nod "We are squared away with our guest Captain. Anybody know if the coffee is fresh?"

Stepping towards the coffee pot with more quickness than he probably should have. "Just so you know Capt. anyone trys that pack of wolves move again towards this crew we will be needing some body bags. I don't take kindly to folks bullying their way through the  verse."

Abigail Archer

Abigail nodded towards Jo, "Appreciate you showing up on time...can't say the same for everyone else." She sighed, still disturbed by the job, but unable to really do much about it. Abigail heard the light clicking, stumbling, and rustling down the hallway. The king and queen it seemed making their way to the galley eventually.  She couldn't believe they had somehow picked up the two most vain people in the entire 'verse. Jax made his way shortly after,

Quote"Where is everyone? ....ruttin' ship ain't that big now is it?"
Abigail rose a brow and looked down the hall seeing everyone follow suit,

"Well...sir, it appears they were behind you." She grinned, Jax clearly distracted...though he did his best to not be.

She turned to Emit, "Why yes sir, it is, please grab a cup and take a seat. The brief will be starting shortly."

Artemis Graham

Art had barely made a start on her diagnostics when suddenly she was being summoned back to the galley. It wasn't entirely a surprise after what she'd seen on the monitors. Captain had a job. She supposed she should be thankful he was keen to share it with them. Many a captain would have kept her contained to the engine room and had no further use for her. And as good as Art was with engines she had a lot of uses. Some of them were even legal.

All the same she made sure she completed a simple diagnostic to make sure all was running smoothly before making her way to the others. Punctuality was something she valued but she valued functioning life support and propulsion engines more. Despite her distractions she was not the last to arrive, although the clicking of heels and the swishing of fabric behind her announced Charity and Amorru wouldn't be too far behind. Giving a nod to those already assembled, Art took a seat next to Jo, figuring she could at least talk comm systems if there was a delay with the others. She hoped they wouldn't be long, lest she face the dreaded small talk she hated so much.

"Sorry for the delay," she said, directing her comments to Jax as she took a seat. It may be a form of small talk but breeding demanded an apology and an explanation, "I was running a quick diagnostic. Everything seems to be running smoothly. I'll take a more thorough look after the meeting but so far so good." After everything on Greenleaf it was rather a pleasant surprise.

Jax

[GALLEY]

Artemis slipped in just as Abigail pointed out where Charity and Amorru were seated. Jax took a double take wondering how he could have missed them, but no wonder with his mind running a mile a minute. He acknowledged his Engineer's brief report. "Sounds good Art, thanks....and now down to the business at hand." Jax stayed standing while the others kept their seats, he took another sip of water and then began.

"The job that the Moda Tong has charged us with basically boils down to a bit of Bounty Hunting." Yes simple enough he thought to himself. "Though it's a hard target on a secure planet we have been awarded the needed creds to land along with invites to a certain party."

Jax scanned around the room taking in everyone's faces trying to read their reactions. "The party is our objective's wedding, now to the when and how we apprehend him, that is totally up to us. I'm leaning toward the end after the guests have had time to drink their fill." Jax then stepped over toward Charity. "Now Miss Charity I believe this job requires a keen eye for Core fashion and etiquette....I think I can say for the good portion of us we could use help in these areas if you care to cast your lot with us."

The Captain didn't wait for an answer but continued on. "No need to answer right now, you have time to think it over. We are still twelve to fifteen hours out from Newhall, time enough for anyone if they want out to take their leave." He thought he should offer the option not knowing exactly where this new crew of his stood.

"We'll be picking up a passenger once there and do a bit of shopping, with the guidance of Miss Charity I do hope and then it's off to Bellerophon." He paused to finish off the bottle of water and then tossed it into the sink. "Now any questions before we all get some rest, it's been one hell of a day." Jax eased into a seat across from Abigail and waited to hear his crew's response.

.

Artemis Graham

When Jax spoke, Art found herself involuntarily sitting up a little straighter. It was a good sign. She knew through her own experience that if your crew can't trust and respect you, you'll have a hard time getting a job done. It took a hell of a lot to make Art trust anyone. It would take a long time (if ever) for that to come but at least she appeared to kind of, sorta respected him. Plus she was meticulous with details and she wanted to hear everything she could about the job.

As she listened, her eyebrows rose ever so slightly. Bounty hunting a mark on his wedding day? It seemed a bit cold but based on everything else she heard she couldn't help but feel they'd probably be doing him or his bride a favour. Secure planet meant Core, which meant her world. And most of the core weddings she'd attended had involved a gold digger, parental pressure or a sham of one kind or the other. Sometimes they included all three.

She tried not to smile at the implication that she would need help with Core etiquette and fashion. It meant she was doing her job right. Art considered letting them know she had chops herself. In fact she had the slight sinking feeling she'd probably know their mark, or at least of him. Years ago it would have been a stretch to dig into her adolescent upbringing but she'd been back on Osiris long enough to have sharpened her skills to a high standard. But she kept these thoughts to herself because, at the end of the day, she had made a conscious effort to leave that world behind. Besides, she'd been kidnapped twice already in her life (although once was by accident). She didn't want to be ransomed off again.

So instead she gave a thoughtful nod and said the other thought that was weighing on her mind, "Sounds simple enough but who exactly is going to be taking down the mark?" She gave a subtle glance around the room and considered what her mother would think of the assembled group. None of them would blend into a core crowd, even in fancy duds (except their passenger of course, and that was a lot to ask someone who was just along for the ride). Perhaps Amorru could make a go at being an eccentric baron so long as he didn't start another brawl. The reality was, whoever was picked would need a lot of training in a short amount of time. Art didn't particularly want to go along for the ride but she also wanted to get paid (and avoid being arrested). She'd resolved to give whoever Jax chose a helping hand...and perhaps an ear mic to get them through the experience.

Emit Culpepper

Taking a long sip from his mug Emit waited and listened carefully as the others spoke. This certainly didn't sound good from the start of things.
"Pardon me for asking Capt.  but is this fella's  bounty dead or alive? Just sayin, is this a grab and tag or something else.  Cause those  thugs and that Dragon Queen seemed more than skilled to accomplish a simple snatch job."  Emit took another long sip as he glanced around the room trying to read the faces of the rest of the crew.

Jolene Blaylocke

Listening quietly, Jo appeared somewhat distracted though she was in fact listening fully. Her mind was trying to recall anything it could about this Moda Tong Jax mentioned and there were brief flashes here and there, but nothing concrete aside from they weren't a group to be taken lightly. She'd have to go digging. So the folk who had cut her line to the station were Moda Tong and apparently the lady in charge of the group that had boarded the ship wanted the crew to kidnap some poor sap on his wedding day. Someone had seriously messed up to be getting so publicly kidnapped like that. Jo sort of felt sorry for him, but this was the job they'd been given in exchange for the freedom to leave the station.

The wrinkled nose of irritation at having to go dress shopping gave away that she was listening and she almost broke in to volunteer that she probably already had a dress that was fancy enough for a wedding but she held her tongue not wanting to be rude and interrupt. When she thought about it, the dress probably wouldn't be up to date on a fashion side of things. The idea of keeping up with what was fashionable reminded her just how many times her mother had dragged her to the seamstress and the hours she'd stood there as dress after dress was tried on her for something as simple as a summer evening party. It wasn't something she really relished doing again any time soon. Or ever for that matter.

Opening the floor to questions, Art beat Jo to the question of who it was they were after. They'd need to know that for certain. Granted, it would likely be easy to figure out if there was no 'groom switch' because their target was nervous about being picked up. Being a resident of Bellerophon, he probably felt he had enough security, both digital and physical to keep them out. In most cases, those things were far more than enough.

It was Emit's question that had Jo's head turning towards the man. Her head tilted a little as something suddenly clicked into place in her mind. She'd have to double check, but it made perfect sense. "Plausible deniability. We get pinched doing this, they can deny anything we say and it'll likely be believed by the authorities. I mean," she gestured around at the crew. "We don't exactly look like we'd be part of the Moda Tong, do we?"

Charity

Grace had slipped in relatively soon after the Captain had called for their presence and seated herself at the table with a silent smile and nod of greeting to the ones who'd been gathered already. She was very content to remain unseen during this meeting as she was quite eager to get back to the safety of her medbay. After the pilot's quick takeoff, everything she'd been tidying had fallen all over the counters and floor, so she needed to reorganize the room. Speak of the Devil. Her gaze lifted toward the entrance to the Galley when Amorru and Charity waltzed in, a slow groan escaping her at the sight of their interlocked arms. Of course Reyes had snagged another pretty victim. Rolling her eyes in what might have been annoyance or disgust, she forced her attention away from the Royal Couple to listen to what the Captain had to say.

---

Charity was careful to walk with as much poise and elegance as her training would allow her considering the fire water burning holes in her belly. Despite the occasional mysterious smile or tightened grasp on the pilot's arm, she was doing pretty good at keeping up appearances. With his help, the aristocrat settled into a seat beside Amorru, smiling in greeting at those who'd been gathered. An ivory hand lifted to brush some of her curls back into their proper place before she straightened the bow holding them back. An outfit change was imminent. Rarely did she go so long in the same dress. And she still needed to look up ways to get her things laundered... Her thoughts had trailed off into the land of fabrics, dresses, and starch when she heard her name.

"Now Miss Charity I believe this job requires a keen eye for Core fashion and etiquette....I think I can say for the good portion of us we could use help in these areas if you care to cast your lot with us," the Captain offered.

In essence, this beautiful angel of a man was offering her a sanctioned opportunity to take them all on a shopping trip. Her gaze widened for a moment and beneath the skirts of her dress, her ankles crossed primly. Of course she would help them pretty themselves up. Not wanting to interrupt his meeting, she nodded softly in response, her hands lowering to

"Sounds simple enough but who exactly is going to be taking down the mark?" Artemis inquired.
"Pardon me for asking Capt., but is this fella's bounty dead or alive?" Emit asked.

Charity's eyes widened a little and she turned to look at the pilot, as though he'd have the answer to that question. And about a hundred others flitting through her mind. With a newfound curiosity, she looked him over, wondering if he'd ever killed a man outside of a polite duel. "We don't exactly look like we'd be part of the Moda Tong, do we?" Jo observed.

"Good heavens, no we do not," Charity answered for everyone, with no small amount of indignation at the thought of looking remotely like that unfashionable bully and her gang of unrefined mud people. Once more she began to fan herself, a gentle pink fading into being across her cheeks, her pout only encouraged by the alcohol she'd had earlier. Her attention flashed toward Amorru and then Grace, as though asking them 'Can you imagine?' with a skeptical little giggle.
