Appearance:  Desmond stands 6'3 with broad-shoulders, jet-black short cropped hair, a roguish smile and thick but well kept beard. From a short distance he looks like a professional athlete in their late 20s or early 30s based on his well conditioned  physique. On closer inspection he is covered with faintly recognizable scars and burn marks across his entire body after receiving countless emergency medical treatments of varying levels of quality. His eyes give the impression of animalistic cunning and intelligence; they also appear to belong to someone more than twice his age.

Initial Personality:  If meeting Desmond on the street you would most likely think he is the most warm, open and understanding person you had even met within seconds of meeting. He is charming in a targeted and disarming way that makes it hard to remember why you were going to ask him why he is in a classified and restricted area or wearing your missing supervisor's slightly blood-stained uniform, he probably has a very reasonable explanation. Desmond is the guy you want to share tales of your most epic triumphs and failures with while sharing a beer.

Underlying Personality:  Under the surface,  Desmond is cold, calculated, brutal and will use any means necessary to complete an objective. Through over a decade as an alliance special forces operative and working side by side with various intelligence agencies he has picked up extensive tradecraft skills and experience, especially interrogation and counter-intelligence.

 While dismissed by Alliance officials as rumor not worthy of discussion, it is said the primary fingernail removal technique taught in the darker corners of the intelligence community is still called "The Desmond".

Other History:  Orphaned at a young age when his parents, both Alliance Terra-Forming engineers , are killed in a terrorist attack on border world 32GY-1N.
Desmond is raised in Alliance-run foster system per parent's life-insurance policies.
Recognition in school at young age for affinity in chemistry/engineering and winning scholarships/grants via multiple state-run martial-arts competitions, primarily Boxing and Jiu-Jitsu.
Transferred per anonymous high-level request into Alliance Naval Officer Military Prep-School after inflicting irrecoverable injuries to the Alliance's top contender in a youth international boxing competition. 
Honor Graduate of Alliance Naval Academy - Top of class in field of applied engineering and molecular chemistry.
Commissioned  into Union of Allied Planets Navy at rank of Ensign
Acceptance into volunteer-only program for Naval Special Forces Counter-Terrorism unit
Selected by Alliance Intelligence joint-agency black-ops task unit specializing in anti-sedition  through use of sabotage,  assassination and counterintelligence.
 Agents operate in small units or solo undercover identities as low-level state-department officials conducting surveys of stability in rim-world territories.

After 8 years of continuous operations deep into outer territories, Desmond grievously injured when performing extra-enhanced interrogation of a faction leader within the Dust Devils's, a major terrorist organization dominant in the region. Desmond is wounded when the suspected rebel leader detonates an implanted high-explosive device in their skull to prevent leaking sensitive information regarding other names in cabal of anti-Alliance resistance groups. Desmond is the only surviving member of his unit and is only located due to the explosion's magnitude on satellite surveillance being caught by local authorities.

Desmond falls into a coma due to his severe injuries and remains unconscious for the next 10 years. He receives the Alliance's best cutting-edge experimental medical treatments as he is the only survivor with potential knowledge regarding the anti-alliance conspiracy on the outer planets. He spends the majority of the next decade in a regenerating UV nutrient cryo-bath that promotes healing of the brain and body using newly developed gene therapy techniques.

Desmond regains consciousness at a medical black-site where he is being monitored for long-term recovery. After seducing the medical officer assigned to his care and stealing her login credentials, Desmond is able to access an Alliance terminal and confirm the orders to terminate with extreme prejudice and mark him MIA after confirming what information he possesses regarding the terrorist conspiracy.

Desmond uses the threat of releasing "the" information in addition to divulging various threatening and destabilizing evidence collected as someone having done the dirty-work of the alliance for the last decade. High-level Alliance brass makes a counter-offer by "allowing" Desmond to join the Federal Marshalls as an agent initiate to provide a modicum of freedom and independence that takes advantage of his skillset but still remaining under Alliance "supervision". As an alternative to immediate execution, Desmond accepts the offer. 

Skills and Strengths:  +Expert in demolitions and heavy ordnance with high-level understanding of molecular chemistry and engineering.
+Advanced training and extensive experience in piloting, small-unit infantry tactics, espionage, intelligence/counter-intelligence,  proficiency with most weapon systems with a preference for heavy weapons and explosives.
+Access to extensive intelligence network and criminal informant network.
+Established Reputation/Infamy among high-level Alliance intelligence/military community for ruthlessness and effectiveness. Those who know who he is assume to get out of his way to avoid collateral damage left in his wake.
+Charming/persuasive through combination of natural ability and advanced intelligence operative training/experience with social engineering, coercion, interrogation, black-mail and most forms of manipulation used to gain necessary information to meet objectives. 

Weaknesses: 
-Knowledge gap of last decade due to coma makes Desmond a "fish out of water" when it comes to understanding/awareness of recent events. Many of those he knew before are at different stages in their career/life or possibly dead.
-Repeat loss of teammates over military career performing high-risk operations prevents Desmond from forming deeper relationships with others.
-Almost impossible for Desmond to trust others, he usually expects the worst from everyone he meets to avoid being disappointed/hurt.
-Desmond has functioned with a blanket clearance to kill almost anyone in his way to an objective for most of his career and he is very impatient with those he thinks are deceptive or stalling, regardless of if they are doing it intentionally. This can cause Desmond to escalate to threat of lethal force inappropriately in some cases and function like a black-ops agent instead of law-enforcement. 
-He has been injured and healed so many times that self-preservation is not always on his radar, this can cause himself and others to be injured due to his reckless nature when taking violent action.
-Animosity towards Alliance authority as a whole can get in the way of performing duties with high-risk of interaction breaking down if Desmond is allowed to speak freely to superiors.
