A militant anti-Alliance faction comprised of mostly former Browncoat soldiers unwilling to observe the Independent Coalition's surrender at Serenity Valley, the Dust Devils have returned to the headlines in news bulletins and cortex headlines across the 'Verse in a big, ugly way. Known for a time to only target specific Alliance military ops, the Dust Devils opted for a more indiscriminate focus when they bombed a civilian shopping center in Heraklion City on Newhall. While the attack on the shopping center was but a distraction plot as part of a bigger plan to attack and disable Heraklion City's water processing plants in effort to stifle Alliance terraforming efforts, the loss of civilian life reflects a much darker turn for the Dust Devils. Openly proud Browncoats and even those with a more subtle sense of loyalty to the Independent cause on Newhall and throughout the Red Sun system for their potential roles in these crimes or connections to anyone they may suspect as a perpetrator.

While a signal wave was sent out featuring grainy, shadowy footage of a group of men and women wearing brown dusters, trench coats, and military tunics bearing the banner of the Independent Coalition as they took credit for orchestrating the attacks, their faces were covered by rust colored bandannas and their heads covered by a variety of coverings from ridgetop cowboy hats to long-brimmed ballcaps and Alliance data analysts have yet to establish either a clear image or a point of signal origin. Though no clear connections are known, agents in the Alliance intelligence community suspect a connection to the anti-Alliance network Vox Silenti, and are currently advocating for clearance to act on taking down suspected and confirmed Vox Silenti assets in response.
