Appearance:	Clean shaven you'd never guess he's older than his early forties. Handsome, a beaming smile, the man hasn't had a hard life, and seems to somehow be owed some good karma from being horribly disfigured in a past life or something. Having aged somewhat in slow motion, he was handsome as a young man, but it somehow stands out more now as you wonder where he keeps his portrait of Dorian Gray. He's not particularly tall, or built like an athlete, there's still a vague "averageness" to him. No longer required to wear his suit and tie every day, he likes to pick his clothes around what was comfortable for city life back on Ariel. Acclimated to pollution clouding the skies he almost always wears sunglasses the minute you get outside. He thinks it makes him look cooler but really they make him look like a tourist. Which he kind of is. He's not loaded but his relative wealth shows in the quality, and brands of his threads.

Initial Personality:	Goofy, endearing, your favorite new friend at the party. That's usually the take-away everybody gets from Sid. Somebody its hard not to like. His affable demeanor is honed from years of client management at his firm where he was one of the top Market Analysts. He was the guy they'd send to the clients to not just explain why their investment in Fish Chips in Bernadette went under, and explain it in a way in which the customer didn't cancel their contract. Often the bearer of bad news, he'd still somehow convince you to double down on a new investment with the firm. Recently divorced he's trying out the Cortex dating apps and trying to play the field again but it all comes out a little awkward, but still endearing for the man who'd been married since his 2nd year of college. He's got a spark of "I gotta prove something to myself, and to ****ing Nancy" energy about him that is very evident when you speak to him about his new passions he's pursuing now that's he's left behind the world of finance.  Besides Treasure hunting, you don't even want to ask him about how much he's gotten into playing the bass and playing the drums again. Seriously, just don't get him on about it.
Underlying Personality:	Sidney has no idea what he's doing, and has no business orchestrating a treasure hunt. Sure he's just the money, but with being the money man comes a certain degree of ownership. Especially legally. He's got an eye for details and he's a brilliant analyst but again, hunting treasure and dodging pirates. The stress of trying to stay cool all the time in front of everyone has lead to him stress eating gummy bears, then getting sick to his stomach, and getting more anxious, then eating MORE gummy bears. It's a vicious cycle of sugary slaughter. Also the divorce means its not quite as much of a fun, and cute mid life crisis, as he's opted for a near suicidal task as his new hobby instead of micro-brewing or something. There's deeper psychological issues and things to cope with but he's a rich guy from the core. Feelings are meant to be buried under piles of receipts from frivolous spending.
Known History:	2468 - Born to Ephraim and Matya Applebaum in New Pittsburg, Ariel. 2486 - Graduates with honors from Ariel National STEM academy, enrolls as a dual major in statistics and economics at the Londinium Royal Academy 2488 - Disciplined for an unexplained incident involving his fraternity. Sidney transfers back to Ariel and enrolls at their state academy of Math and Science in the same major. 2490 - Graduates in the top 5% of his class, but with a few more redacted disciplinary notes chalked up to his Jewish Fraternity, Omega Iota. 2492 - Sidney re-emerges into official records after an absence and takes a job as an intern with the Ariel based accounting firm Sadfie & Hesher. 2493 - Promoted to account manager at Sadfie & Hesher. 2496 - Applebaum accepts a new position at the Londinium based investment firm Rogen and Partners as a Market analyst in their consulting division. 2500 - Promoted to Senior Market Analyst 2504 - Promoted to Executive Market Analyst 2508 - Assigned to the account of Miller Family Holdings 2513 - Transfers to the Ariel office of Rogen & Partners and marries Melinda Miller. 2518 - Melinda Miller files for sealed file divorce. 2519 - Sidney unloads dozens of highly valuable stocks without warning then resigns from his new appointed position as Executive VP of Market Analysis.
Other History:	Sid was afforded a pretty comfortable and unchallenging childhood. He was a smart kid, but also a naturally affable and charming one. The only real challenge was that his parents weren't supportive of his dream to be a professional DJ, though they did tolerate him MCing and DJing the local Bar Mitzvahs and birthday parties through college. Again, a pretty unchallenging life. And his good luck kept on rolling, not only was he smart, and likeable, but he was also from a pretty well off family. They weren't loaded but his parents, both professors could afford him a comfortable lifestyle. Comfortable enough that he didn't even try and get a real job until two years after college. Those two years after college are what he refers to as the "blurry time". He would speak of them fondly but, you get how it is. Even then the "real job" was an unpaid internship, but again, unchallenging life, his parents covered him until they gave him a salary. Some parents might have gotten on his case sooner to get serious with their work and start a family, but not Ephraim and Matya. They welcomed each of the different girlfriends that rotated in and out over the years like they were his one and only. Oddly though, they detested his eventual wife, then ex-wife Melinda. "The warrior woman." they called her sarcastically and in all seriousness at the same time. When work started to get sort of serious, he started to take it less and less serious deep down. Melinda got bored of their routine. Sidney suggested they try starting a band. Melinda suggested they try dating other people. Sidney instead poured himself into his work. Paradoxically it was an escape from his collapsing marriage, which was collapsing faster because of his devotion to his stupid job. So Mel left, and Sidney started a band with some of the guys from work. But they were all like 10 years younger than him and wanted to take designer drugs that made him stay up for two days straight invent a new language nobody kisx shonu sofablee. The Three Mer-Men as they'd come to call themselves dis-banded after about six rehearsals and one sparsely attended gig. It was after the band fell apart, which was shortly after his marriage fell apart, Sidney started researching the age of space piracy before the war. Being a bit long in the tooth, he could remember the time before the war pretty well, and while some kids were reading about cowboys, Sidney was always a Pirate sort of guy. Stories of the Ebony and Ivory always captured his imagination. Now as an adult, he was once again going down the rabbit hole. This time trying to find the truth of the stories. In that search he discovered something not many had noticed. One of the crew was still alive! And his name was Pool...
Skills and Strengths:	Math / Forensic Accounting: Sid's always had a head for numbers. Even back in middle school he was the class bookie. Fast forward to him as an adult, and he's divesting billions of credits from an engine parts company because he was the first to find evidence they hiding massive losses in shell companies. Its not a flashy, or sexy skill, but he's really good at helping other people make money. People skills: Sidney is easily described as a disarming personality. With an easy-going smile and his affable demeanor, people just like him. Sure he rubs some people the wrong way, but even then, he will try and claw his way into your heart if you initially don't like him somehow. Money: Applebaum isn't the Captain, but he's the one paying the bills. Three decades of investments and savings has added up to what most people form the rim would call a fortune. To him it was a modest nest egg. Hopefully its enough to keep the Shanghai fueled up until they find "The Eb".
Weaknesses:	Money - While Sid's cash is what is keeping their operation afloat, it also makes him and the Shanghai a big, fat, giant, bright red target for other pirates. Those who'd simply hold him for hostage, or try and beat them to his prize. Just "a guy" - To say Sidney's not equipped for combat, be it unarmed, armed, or just a slap fight, Sid will probably lose. Having not thrown a punch since he was in grade five, he has absolutely nothing resembling formal training or even first hand experience in battle. If things get scrappy, he ain't happy. Planetbound - In addition to having no familiarity with fighting, Sidney Herschel Applebaum couldn't tell a transfer drive from a hydraulic pump. Or a space-ship from an orbital shuttle, or that a yoke isn't just in his eggs. The only thing he knows about space-ships is that he usually likes to take a couple sleeping pills and pass by his flights in a slightly blurry haze of weird dreams and occasional sleep walking. Sleep walking - Due to his over-reliance on sleep medication in the past, he's developed a sleep disorder, and may be found wandering around the ship in his sleep, rambling incoherently. The NEW sleeping medication he takes lessens the occurrences but it can still happen.
