Michael Becker

Galley

Ships. They were so small. Mike suddenly found everyone invited to the room where he would have preferred a little alone time. He turned to be greet by the doctor, only to see Minato had snuck in silently. Or had she been their whole time? How much of him impatiently opening cupboards had been seen? All he could do was sigh, twist his neck until he heard a somewhat satisfying crack then find his own seat at the table. It was time for a briefing.

Uncontrollably, Mike broke a grin as the task ahead was explained to him. Their was a certain irony to it. Long in his past, Mike had taken part in two bank robberies with a 50% success rate, that was before he did time and reformed. The term reformed was debatable when he now served on independent ships, shooting people for money. Exemption from crime was a more interesting term. Too good to be true? An immunity that might cover deeds prior to this posting? Becker couldn't be sure that his complete innocence mattered though. He was still only good for one thing.

Mike snapped out his own little world of consideration and began listening up. He switched on to listen to the discussion of pay, but he wasn't too pleased with the answer. A good bank hit was an amount they could retire on. Now Becker was left planning a private conversation with the captain about spending cash. All in all there was little to discuss though. Mike would advise a simple and painless job where he could, then ask Lin to start pointing to where the gun barrels should be aimed. He was content when the captain.

Becker turned to Ava, the regular member he had been introduced to, and a little Leroy who had seen hanging around earlier. "Do ya'll have anything to drink on this ship. I figure this is a good time to toast to new crew and... that thing we're gonna do." He wasn't quite sure how to put it.

Travis Chao

This wasn't off to the best start.

Travis considered keeping quiet, for a click on his old watch.

"I'm not sure putting a slug in hired-on man making a cred to feed his family would be something I'd call 'fair game'. I may have to think on that a bit if that's all right Captain? As for payment, could be a man," He looked to a couple of the women, then back at the Captain, "or a woman might have monetary type obligations and such. I might be need of a slight stipend or,"

He finished with a little cynicism, "allowance, Until I qualify for any sort uh severance."

"When you give a personal lesson in meanness to a critter or person, don't be surprised they learn the lesson."

Mylena Yee

Mylena's opinion on the bounty hunter may have raised a little higher.  She liked that he wasn't afraid to challenge the Captain or to stand for what he believed in.

Personally, she wasn't worried too much with money, she had always been taken care of by the people she was in service to before and she expected that Lin would take care of the crew. Room and board so far were nice and if she needed money for a slinky dress or something she'd just ask.

As for shooting a hired man, well, just because you needed to make sure someone didn't play the hero didn't mean you had to kill them.  Killing was never her first option.  She was, however, a bit less fuzzier about knee caps and such.  And in her experience incapacatated was as good as dead most times.

She was however very interested in the Captian's response.

. "Best go take a look at your new seat and make sure everything is within easy reach."

Newt didn't pay the comment too much attention,there wasn't any malice in Lin's words.Just a to the point approach, something that he would be sure to note for future conversations with the Captain.

The seat was comfy,better than most he'd been behind in the past few years. The controls were not positioned ideally but he could make it work with little effort.
He ran a quicker check list than he normally would have Flying solo,but knew Lin, was itching to go.

"I appreciate the job again Captain,I won't let you down."

Grabbing the ships microphone. "ATTENTION, Ladies & Gentlemen this your new piloting Newt,speaking. I'd like to take a moment to welcome everyone to Ronin. This is going to be a non stop flight to Three Hills. Please refrain from smoking while the vessel is in motion. You shall be free to move about the cabin once we depart the clamping holds. If you have any unsecured items or weapons of importance please check those now. Thank you again for flying Ronin Airways,once again I'm your pilot Newt our Captain is Lin. Sit back and enjoy."

Gives Lin, a thumbs up

Minato Kaneshiro

Takeoff...Minato truly despised the takeoff portion of any trip. He could already feel his stomach becoming a circus trapeze as he sat there. He grabbed hold to his chair and held for dear life. As he sat there though, Minato surveyed around him for a trashcan or bucket of some sort. His eyes grow big as he found what he was looking for and bound quickly across the room for it. Not paying attention to where he was going, Minato ran full force into the Mr. Chao knocking himself back to the floor dazed and unaware of who he ran into.

Minato, rubbing his head, looked up at Chao and said, "Hey! Watch it!" When Minato realized who he had ran into, he quickly changed his tone. "Or not...Whatever you prefer...Mr. Chao...sir." His military experience was too ingrained in him to not leak out from time to time.

Ava Gray

Quote from: Michael Becker on October 03, 2019, 06:21:17 PMBecker turned to Ava, the regular member he had been introduced to, and a little Leroy who had seen hanging around earlier. "Do ya'll have anything to drink on this ship. I figure this is a good time to toast to new crew and... that thing we're gonna do." He wasn't quite sure how to put it.

Ava's face lit up at the suggestion.  "Toasting the imminent repatriation of some black money is a great idea," she said, though noting that Chao had some additional questions for the Captain, she pinched her mouth shut so as not to interrupt actual business.  Still, she slipped out of her seat and headed for a black and red oriental cupboard tucked against a wall.  She was about to open it when Minato took off across the room.

The collision between the techie and the gunhand triggered Ava's doctoring instincts and she temporarily abandoned the quest for alcohol to hurry over and take Minato's arm to help him to his feet.  She gave Chao a quick scan.  "Are you alright?" she asked in concerned tones before giving Minato a more serious look-over.  "How's your head?" she asked the tech, angling her gaze to look into his eyes.  She wouldn't get as much information as she'd like without use of a flashlight, but she looked for anything; dizziness, lack of focus... that might suggest the fall had resulted in more than a minor bump to the head.

Travis Chao

Travis had been trying to show a calm demeanor. He didn't want the Captain to think he was challenging him, but how 'citizens' were to be treated WAS important. Shooting anyone that gets in the way, collateral damages, no harm to innocents no matter what... That was a very long and difficult scale to define, much less stick to a designated marker on.

His military experience was too ingrained in him to not leak out from time to time.

Then the tech man or whatever his position was started running, first one way and then straight in to him. If it had been an ambush or attack it would have been brilliant. As it was Chao immediate reaction to reach for his side arm was about two inches. The lad bounced off the old gunfighter as he was well seated in his chair.

Travis did a quick survey of the others, the doc responded. He looked at Minato. "I'm fine Minato. And you can call me Travis please."

Minato allowed Ava to give him a look over as he gathered himself back together. He lifted his gaze to her and replied, "Everything's fine. I think I may have a bruised ego more than anything. Thank you, Dr. Gray. I will head back to my seat now." As he lifted himself up, Minato felt his world spin for a moment and he toppled back to the floor. " Woah...Maybe I should sit here for a bit."

Ava Gray

Ava gave a quick smile to Travis at his gentlemanly response to Minato's clumsiness.  It was a good sign that Minato was responding cogently to Travis.  It seemed likely that the fall hadn't resulted in anything but a sore noggin, and she consciously resisted the doctorly urge to treat every minor inconvenience like a medical emergency.  When the techie moved to stand on his own, she took half a step back to give him space.

Minato's sudden loss of balance brought Ava right back to his side - not quite quickly enough to steady him on his feet, but soon enough to help ease his return to the floor.  "Sitting seems like a good choice," she agreed, gently running her fingers over the back of his head to feel for a bump.  "How much does your head hurt?  You on any medications right now?  Are you feeling nauseous at all?" The stream of questions served not only to get answers, but to give her the chance to analyze his speech for slurring and his response time to questions.

She looked up at Mike with an imploring raise of her brows.  "Would you mind getting the drinks?  If you don't prefer sake, there's a Lagavulin 10 year or an Aberdeen 15 in the back..."

Mylena Yee

Mylena watched the interaction between Minato, Travis and Ava.  She had started to move to assist the former bounty hunter as Ava had moved to help Minato, but Travis didn't seem to be in need of help.  Instead she gracefully changed direction, and she busied herself collecting dirty dishes, making herself useful in straightening up the kitchen.  It was her way to disappear unobtrusively while still very much there.

As she cleared the bowls, cups and silverware from the crew, she gave a small incline of head or smile or murmured greeting, depending upon who. Monty got a very polite bow of her head as they hadn't been introduced yet.  It didn't take long for her to have things straightened up and settled away.

She would get glasses down if Mike was getting out drinks. Calm, quiet, reserved, everything a good servant should be, at least on the outside.

Michael Becker

Ronin Galley

Mike tried to keep his relief subdued as he was directed to the area that held the drinks. "Yes ma'am." It was mainly satisfying to know they were stocked and by the way Lin seemed to look after his ship, they probably stayed stocked.

Again, Becker tried not to look too enthuastic as he raised from his chair, but he wasted little motion in getting to the bottle. Lower the number the better was how he understood it, so Lagavulin 10 it was. He was helpingly met with glasses by Mylena. Mike tilted his head as he looked over. "Line 'em up." And a glass was poured for everyone who showed interest.

Mike didn't sit back down, he leaned against a counter a nursed his own glass. Just holding it his hands put him at ease. This ship would be manageable after all. Now he could listen to the others converse without having to do much thinking himself. Maybe two of the crew would play bumper cars again.

Newt Declan

Switching the toggle controls of the voice-com from internal to external receiver mode, Newt clears his throat.
"Well Captain I guess we will keep this bit here more by the book."

Depressing the nob with his thumb "Skyplex  Traffic Control, this is Ronin SC-1125 requesting docking departure from ring housing 24, Operator code Declan BTS-4426."

Switches flipped,toggles toggled,buttons depressed in proper sequence. Nav-com signal broadcasting and recieving. His hands working thoroughly along the controls. Clearly he'd been trained by a real facility or military or perhaps both.

Taking controls in a loose grip, Newt engaged the docking port engines until he felt the clamps release. Giving the throttle a little tap he maneuvered away from the ring with ease.

"This part is always a little bumpy in these ole Slammer Classes,no worries though I'll be sure not to chip the paint."

Luke OMalley

Quote from: Michael Becker on October 03, 2019, 06:21:17 PM"Do ya'll have anything to drink on this ship. I figure this is a good time to toast to new crew and... that thing we're gonna do."

Mylena and Becker provided the drinks and once those closer and interested had gotten theirs Luke approached and retrieved a glass for himself. With the drink secured in his left hand Luke extended his right towards the man who had proposed the toast. He even managed to suppress his accent for a moment, a talent he definitely had and one he decided that it might be best to use around the crew, to avoid further miscommunication. The boss hadn't quite followed his question in the meeting but thanks to the man Chao it had more or less be answered.

"Nice ta meecha, m'name's Luke." Admittedly battening down his accent still left his words smeared in a British lower class drawl. But that was still better than his native thick Glasgow thieves' cant.

Michael Becker

Not a quiet drink then, Mike thought to himself as another crew member made for introductions. "Are you sure it's nice to meet me. I might be a hún dàn." He remarked, as he considered the use of 'nice to meet you' to a complete stranger. He cleared his throat and realised a less abrupt response should be produced. "Mike." He switched the hand holding his cup so that he could extend a handshake. "And I am a hún dàn, but generally a quite reserved one so don't worry." Giving the man more attention, Mike shifted against the counter to stand up straight before conceding that the man was holding some height over him.

Becker sipped on his drink. If there was more social interaction coming, he needed it.

Travis Chao

Travis rose and moved over next to Becker and the drinks. He took one and waited a moment then spoke,

"Here's to cheating, stealing, fighting, and drinking." He gave a little dramatic pause;
If you cheat, cheat death," He nodded at the Captain, raised his glass;
If you steal, steal a woman's heart," He winked at Ava, and smiled playfully;
"If you fight, fight for family and friend," He waved the glass around a bit as he saluted the others;
"And if you drink, drink with me."

He tossed back half the drink and his eyes widened a bit.
A little swish around in his mouth and he swallowed slow.

"Smooth."
Travis smiled.
"I'm on board now Captain."
