Kasimir Stern

The crew scattered at Tara's word, and Kas fell in step next to, but slightly behind Mattie. He approved as she slowly drifted them back from the main group. It was definitely a good idea to keep back a little. As they walked his eyes swept back and forth, waiting and watching for someone to pay them more attention than they should, but no one did. They'd lost track of Tara a couple times, and as they rounded a corner to regain line of sight on them Mattie suddenly spun and back around the corner, pushing him back against the wall. He made a noise of mild surprise and curiosity. His unspoken question was answered a moment later.

Quote"Tā mā de!", Mattie hissed to herself, before turning to Kas, keeping her voice low. "Cap's group found the place, alright, welcomin' party an' all. I don't think they spotted me."

He grunted as she edged up to the corner and peaked around it.

Quote"Three on the ground, two on the roof", she said. "Looks like they're armed to the teeth, too."

Kas made an "Mmm" noise, and edged around her and peaked an eye around the corner, confirming what Mattie had said. Tara seemed to be replying to one of the gunmen, but they were to far for the voices to carry. "Hmm. Cant come at them direct, just get them shot." He thought for a moment. Ordinarily collateral damage wasn't something he worried about. He didn't care if Monte took a bullet, or the girl for that matter, though she certainly rated higher than Monte. If Tara hadn't been up there too he'd have probably just headed straight in shooting, and let them live or die by their own reactions... but it being his Captain, for now at least, made things more problematic.

"Could go round the back, see if there's a way up to the roof. Take them from behind maybe... Or we wait and see what the Captain does." While he waited for Mattie's reply he drew his pistol out from underneath his long coat, checked the magazine and chamber, and returned it to its holster. 17 + 1, just as it should be.

Acknowledging the trouble they had run into according to Mattie and Kaz's reports Silje dropped back to Tara's last plan for her and that was... once the warehouse was located, go get Phoenix ready. The pilot crept up to the corner to get eyes on the structure for herself. "Our Captain does find herself in tight spots quite often." She stepped back...."Okay thinking I go get the shuttle ready, I can even move her closer for a quick pick up, maybe right off the roof even, if you can get everyone up there." Silje dropped back ready to move out. "I'll be monitoring comms Kaz, one quick call I can be here."

------------------

Meanwhile at the warehouse there seemed to be an uneasy pause in the action as Marx's crew waited for an answer. Then suddenly an older gentleman smartly dressed stepped out of the darkness of the doorway. Tara knew at once is was Big Al, his trademark long bushy grey mustashe giving him away. "Ophelia Angelique...is that truly you?" He took a few steps forward glancing around the scene before him. "How have you managed to be caught up with this lot of thieves?" Alberich's face full of disgust as his eyes stopped on Tara..."So Captain Marx, what do you have for me?" Before the young lady or Gryphon's captain could respond a single muffled shot rang out from a distant roof top, it's target Big Al's right eye socket. In an instant Alberich Siegfried's lifeless body crumpled to the dirt.

Tara Marx

Tara watched as Big Al's head wrenched back followed by the sound of a high powered rifle crack from the building behind them. "DROGO!" She blurted to herself as she immediately dove for cover behind a stack of crates all the while drawing her pistol. A tuck and roll brought her up on one knee and covered in dust from the gravel roadway. Siegfried's underling's returned fire to the adjacent roof top affording Tara's group time to duck and cover. She waited before returning fire herself, whoever was on that rooftop was only targeting Big Al's men. Right now retrieving Lucky alive was the only thing that mattered. "Going for a back door, I hope!" She shouted to the others amidst the gun fire and made a mad dash for the rear of the warehouse.

Ophelia

"Ophelia Angelique...is that truly you? How have you managed to be caught up with this lot of thieves?" Big Al asked.

Pale pink lips parted to answer him with his head jerked back and a hole opened up where his eye had been. Ophelia flinched, not in fear, but surprise, watching his body crumple to the dirt as though it were moving in slow motion. While they hadn't been the closest of companions, Al was still an associate of her Family and for someone to kill him so blatantly was... well it did not bode well for those that did the killing.

"DROGO!" The captain yelled as she dove for cover, indicating that she was somehow familiar with the shooter enough to know his name. Still, the girl stood in the middle of the fire fight, her dogs pulling and yanking her away gradually, moving her back around the building in the direction they'd come. There had been a clear opportunity for negotiations, but a friend of Tara's had decided instead to blow her family's connection's eye clean out. And that was not something she could abide. For all her desire to get off the planet, her loyalty to her Family and its business connections outweighed her need to get into a ship.

As her dogs pulled her past some of the underlings, Ophelia shouted to one of them, "She's trying to go around back!" to assist them in their hopeful slaughtering of the captain and her violent sniper. An instant later, Henry and Jane continued pulling their Mistress away from the firefight and past where Mattie and Kas were positioned smartly behind cover. Her eyes settled for the briefest of instants on Kas' face and she seemed a little reluctant to leave that interesting creature behind, but Tara's judgement and acquaintances could not be trusted to make the right and more cordial decisions when it came to dealing with the dark underbelly of the mob world and with Ophelia's personal safety.

And so, she allowed her guardians to lead her away from the fight and deep into the maze of Persephone's Eavesdown Docks.

Andes Maley

Andes followed as instructed, he was about to lag behind when he noticed Mattie and Kas has that covered. Instead, he decided to watch Montie. He was glad he did as he felt the man's hackles rise.

QuoteAs they swung around the various buildings along the way, Monte felt the hairs raise on the back of his neck. He fingered the auto pistol strapped under his right armpit as the came into a clearing a short distance from an imposing warehouse. He bit his lip.

"Easy now." He encouraged him. "If he is alive, that means they want something." Andes gave him a reassuring smile and then...

Quotethe sound of a high powered rifle crack from the building behind them

... he attempted to grab Monte by the shoulder and pull him down for cover. Giving him another smile, "See, all under control." as he smoothly unveiled both sidearms. He risked a quick glance at the sound of the shooter, trying to gauge what to do next. And then Tara made the decision for him.

Quote"Going for a back door, I hope!" She shouted to the others amidst the gun fire and made a mad dash for the rear of the warehouse.

"Stay here." He breathed not really expecting Monte to listen to him. Raising his weapons he dashed after Tara, ready to lay down cover fire if he saw a threat.

Mattie Rooney

While Mattie and Kas were contemplating what to do next, a shot suddenly rang out, making the decision for them. The tense stand-off unraveled into a shootout before their eyes; whoever had started it was obviously not a member of their crew but some unseen third party. Right now, Mattie didn't care who; all that mattered was that the Captain was no longer being held at gunpoint, which meant Al's crew had lost the upper hand.

"I think they're going for the back door", she told Kas. "Reckon they could use some back-up?"

It sure would've been nice if Big Al had gathered all his men for the welcoming committee that was now being riddled with bullets and left the back entrance unguarded, but Mattie doubted they were that lucky.

At that moment, Little Miss Snotball ran past them with her mutts, briefly locking eyes with Kas before disappearing around the corner and, hopefully, out of their lives. I knew it! The vindictive little voice in Mattie's head cried out with a mixture of triumph and rage. She'd known that little brat couldn't be trusted, bailing at the first sign of trouble. Good riddance.

Tara Marx

The unknown sniper took out all but one gun man on the roof before falling silent and apparently exited the fight. The shooter now turned his attention and weapon in Tara's direction. Rounds hit the gravel around her as she made a mad dash for the back of the building. As the shooter zeroed in on her, Gryphon's Captain launched herself for the final few feet. She hit the ground hard with a tuck and roll landing back up against the old wooden structure. Tara could feel a burning pain on her thigh and looking down saw the results of a grazing shot, a slow flow of blood began to soak through her trousers and she felt the warm stream running down her leg.

The shootout had ended just as quickly as it had begun. Big Al and his goons lay sprawled out and bullet-ridden in the dirt as the haze from the gunfire settled and began to clear. Maley made it to the back of the warehouse to meet up with the Captain where they plotted their next move. It had grown eerily quiet and no doubt the Feds would be seeking out the cause of the gun shots, but still the street was empty and silent. The only movement was a dirt devil of gunsmoke and dust kicked up by the swirling wind.
