Iris Reale

"For now I think I'm gonna chill with this breakfast, it's..." She paused, making direct eye contact with Iris Reale, "Reale good."

Iris gave Nat a nod as a smile of true amusement played across her face. It was a pun she'd heard before though never quite in this kind of circumstance and it was a little refreshing if she were truly honest with herself. "Oh well played! Well played indeed." With dishes beginning to pile up, she held Nat's gaze briefly and then with little effort and minimal movement, Iris turned on the balls of her feet back to the sink to clear the mess. Her eyes stole one quick glance towards the doorway, where their captain had already disappeared. There would perhaps be time at another point to seek out the captain and make her apologies. For now, what duties she had needed tending to.

"Elevator music always bored me. I can't imagine who dreamed up the idea of that kind of music being enjoyable while in a small moving box like that. I'd offer to play something to replace it, but I don't think my running around playing a violin would prove all that useful." Only after she finished speaking did her head turn towards those still at the table. In truth, it was a faint and meek attempt at poking a little fun at herself. She was still in a place where she was trying to gauge the crew, working to understand them and the relationships that held them together. One she spotted fairly quickly due to a couple of distinct smiles that whispered of something more than just crew mates. Iris turned her head back to the sink so as to hide her reaction to the thought, but she did find it pleasant to see something so sweet where she'd least expected to find it.

Jerilyn Gordon

Jerilyn held her place as the captain laid out his plans. She noted the moment of silence that ran through several crew as the former XO was mentioned. The obvious feeling of loss was expressed on a number of faces, and she made note not to broach that topic unwarranted. She took another bite of her breakfast, and followed with a drink of hot coffee.

As the captain exited, and Iris stocked dishes into the sink, she finished her repast and slid the chair back. Picking up her dishes, she headed to the counter to add them to the collection.

"I can help here, if you need. It was a delicious start of a good day. Thank you."

His knee bump was rewarded with a stifled a smile, a playful elbow nudge, and a quiet "Watch it...will ya." After Helena turned her attention back to the conversations happening around them however, he saw the smile slowly grow across her face. That was a win in his book.

The conversations flowed around him as he ate. Helena asked about the arsenal, Lin replied that they should expect some gun play before heading back downstairs. Nat expressed interest in hearing the Elevator Music story, followed immediately by a terrible pun on Iris's last name that caused Vega to snort with laughter, almost choking on one of his last mouthfuls of food. Puns are the highest form of comedy after all. Iris seemed to be amused by it as well, and then set about cleaning plates from the meal.

Quote"Elevator music always bored me. I can't imagine who dreamed up the idea of that kind of music being enjoyable while in a small moving box like that. I'd offer to play something to replace it, but I don't think my running around playing a violin would prove all that useful."

Vega cleared his throat a little before speaking. "Yeah, never was much of a fan myself either. Always would have preferred silence, or at least some real music." He finished off his last bite of food before looking over at Nat and continuing. "As far as the story. There really isn't much of one. Just the last time we pulled a bank job things didn't go quite according to plan. Harsh words were exchanged... also bullets. Bullets were also exchanged. Anyways. We got kinda trapped in the lobby, had to call the ship to pull us out from the roof. So there we are, in the middle of a firefight, we all bolt for the elevator. I get grazed on the way in. The doors close and... silence. Someone hit the button for the roof and up we go, 4 highly trained and dangerous people suddenly in a quiet box, and then the music starts. And it was just so surreal. To go from the chaos of a firefight to... elevator music. I couldn't help it. Burst out laughing."

Fey

Quote"I expect there will be gunplay but Vega can tell me if there is music in the elevators later. My part of the plan will not have any."

Helena rose a brown and threw a look to Vega, she could only assume it meant trouble. Seeing Lin in such a jovial mood was almost unsettling,  but perhaps that's how he normally acted. After all, losing two crew members and dealing with the same crime boss for years would kill anybody's mood. Nat again acted as the much needed comedy , seemed to get a rise out of Vega and Iris, he was just full of surprises this morning.

Quote"Elevator music always bored me. I can't imagine who dreamed up the idea of that kind of music being enjoyable while in a small moving box like that. I'd offer to play something to replace it, but I don't think my running around playing a violin would prove all that useful."

A small chuckle came out as Helena imagined Iris running around with them with a violin. She opened her mouth to speak but Vega had cleared his throat. As he explained she listened intently until the end,

Quote".. elevator music. I couldn't help it. Burst out laughing."
She stopped mid bite and quickly swallowed, looking over at Vega,

"You mean you do have a sense of humor?"  Helena tried to maintain a semi serious face, but it the smile broke through as she turned back to her plate.

"You know Iris," Helena pushed her plate away as she finished up, "Violin music would be lovely every now in then...."

Monty

The galley still held the aroma of freshly percolated coffee as Leroy sat enjoying his hot steamy beverage and eggs. His ears attentive to the conversation that continued after the captain exited. Not speaking to anyone directly he offered his opinion. "Well if you play the violin with more of a fiddle flare to it, that be just fine with me." He followed that up with a long slurp of coffee.

Lin Kuei

Over the course of the next twenty-four hours, Lin had spent more time in his cabin than probably preferred. This was the first actual job since Victoria had passed. While he would never admit it, there were some nervous thoughts running through his head. He had given his word to Ian that he would help him find or rescue Glory from its resting spot. He also had promised to get the crew work. It was time to succeed at both. He tapped the comm from his quarters. "I need to see everyone in Ops in five minutes."

Lin made his way into Ops ahead of everyone to program the three dimensional modeler with what he knew to be needed ahead of everyone's arrival. It only took a little bit of time and took the few spare moments to check on the progress of the ship's arrival to Summerfair. Pointing it out to Nat, he made sure she knew to land on the southeastern continent which was isolated from the rest of the landmasses.

As soon as the rest of the crew entered into Ops, Lin sent about revealing one of the trade secrets of Ronin showing them the modeler. "So, down to business. We are enroute to the town of Grand Bluff on the moon Summerfair. There is a local crimelord named Andreas Gotch located there who I need to get information from. However he is known to not want to talk to strangers of any kind. According to the information I received, he tends to keep certain vital information either in his estate along the coastline of the continent or in the bank he owns which is roughly two miles away. It also is on the coastline. This is a coastline with a three hundred foot cliff above some very unsteady seas."

As Lin talked, the modeler shifted to show a physical three dimensional replica of the information he was referring to. It displayed a large estate house on the cliffside with a deck overhanging the water below. "So here is the tricky part ...." Lin pointed to two buildings further along the cliffside. The first appeared to be something of a concrete block with two sets of doors, one facing the front of the building and another set attached to protected covered walkway with high railings leading to the second building. The second building was more ostentatious in its design with two levels and matching decks overlooking the ocean below. On the far side, there was an extensive garden.

"The Grand Bluff Bank is owned by Gotch along with the Ruby Gardens Casino. The only access to the bank other than the front doors is by going through the security doors on the covered walkway. A wrong step and you are learning how to swim the hard way. He spends much of his time at the casino enjoying himself in luxury from his office. The very early hours of the morning, he heads home only to come back around mid-afternoon to repeat the process." He took a moment to look at everyone before continuing.

"What I need most everyone else to do is gain entrance to the bank, cause enough disruption between there and the casino so everyone stays there while I search the house. Whatever money you take is on you. Summerfair is a moon of Shadow so the Alliance is probably not watching as closely as they could. This is a fact Gotch is capitalizing on so expect his people to be well armed. Dong ma?" Lin paused to let that sink in. With no real Alliance presence, the casino guards would not hesitate to shoot someone and drop them over the cliff.

"The front door of the bank is an electric timelock set to open at one time each day. The triggering mechanism to activate it is on the inside of the doorway with the last employee who sets it leaving through the casino. Some of you may want to get dressed up for this to draw attention away from others. Once the noise starts, I'll be hitting his estate house. ... Nat, you'll need to come around behind this hill here and swing in low then we'll have to cover the two to three miles on the ground. If Ian wants, using his shuttle is an option because you can come up along the cliff face before coming over the top. Any questions or alternate plans?"

Lin looked the group over as he was looking for alternatives. If they could pull this off, then they could move to recover Glory for Ian and maybe get some more information on Nikola. As much as Lin wanted to succeed, he felt they needed to make this happen.

Fey

Helena made her way to Ops and listened intently to the overview of the job.  Once Lin had finished, it seemed simple enough, cause a distraction and get some money in the process. She did love a good bank heist. Helena walked up to the modeler and looked at the two buildings, the bank was a glorified cinder block with windows, an really one entrance.  The casino was easy enough, someone's gotta cause a ruckus, and she could think of a few people who were up for that job.

"So the way I see it....a few of us here have hit a bank or our two in our time,"  Helena looked over at Vega and smirked, "Might be a good idea if those of us with a bit of heist experience rob the bank, while those of us who have the ability to get dressed and look all fancy like head to the casino...Iris I reckon you're the type to keep a dress or two handy perhaps you could bring our fine mechanic here as your date and cause a bit of a ruckus?" She looked back at Lin,

"Who's driving the getaway? Nat swinging on by once you're done so the rest of us can get home safe and sound?"

Iris Reale

Iris sat quietly through Lin's explanation, eyes studying the images displayed of the casino and bank. She was still studying them, opting to remain the observer, when Helena's suggestion made Iris turn her head. Ever so faintly, her head nodded in thought, as the idea did have some merit. And as luck would have it, she happened to be seated next to the mechanic in question. Helena continued with a further question regarding escape, giving her a chance to glance over to Monte with a smile. Leaning towards him just a little she spoke with a lowered voice. "I can't help but feel a bit like I'm being set up on a blind date."

Leaving it at that, she sat back up but there was a faint, teasing smile on her lips. In her mind, however, she considering the options they had for causing a distraction, or 'a bit of a ruckus' as Helena had said. She had an idea, but there was some concern as to whether it would be enough. "This 'ruckus'," her voice lifted to be heard. "Clearly, we're looking to pull as much security towards it as possible, if I'm understanding correctly. Suppose someone of some status showed up, requesting additional security for their person?"

Her eyes had started on Helena and shifted to Vega, but now turned towards Lin. "Say... a Companion looking to keep her time at the casino protected from other guests? Not only could extra security be drawn in, but the extra security alone would draw the attention of the rest of the guests."

Natascha Santiago-Negron

Nat snapped her fingers, pointing at Iris with a nod, "That ain't a half bad plan, actually."

Thinking for a moment, she added, "Though, we'll probably need to set up some sort of fake identity for that, yeah? Unless you just so happen to have 'proof of being a companion' papers on you already." Nat offered a short chuckle after that.

She was a little antsy though- being the "getaway driver" was usually a tough gig. Had to time the retrieval just right- sitting in the ship on her lonesome, waiting for the signal.

Nat looked to the captain, "You keeping in radio contact to let me know when to swing by, yeah? Or is there some other signal I should be on the lookout for?"

"I can't help but feel a bit like I'm being set up on a blind date."

Leroy chuckled a bit at Iris' remark..."Yeah, think I'd be the winner in that set up." He listened and nodded his head from time to time as Iris refined the plan. When she was done he chimed in. "Well I think I can pull off personal security for Miss Reale much better than a date, just need someone to lend me some fine duds." He glanced around the Op Center. "Most stuff I have has grease stains on it." He shrugged his shoulders and grinned.

Vega Barnet

Vega listened to Lin's briefing, and then sat back, a hand pensively on his chin as he listened to the others input. Helena's plan seemed solid enough, or as solid as they were going to get given the situation. Finally he spoke up. "You're about my height Monty, I'm sure some of my stuff would fit you. Get you looking real "private security" like." He said with a grin, turning back to address the room at large. "Its a good plan. Timing might be a little tricky. The ideal situation would be to have Iris and Monty go in a bit before the bank opens, and then us bank robbers hit the bank from the front as soon as its open." He paused, considering.

"Do we know what time the banks front door opens? Having to sneak weapons in through the casino would probably not work so well, even with the distraction. And trying to fight our way through the casino to the banks back entrance would be... well, rough. To put it mildly."

Ian Dugan

August 21, 2018, 11:14:02 AM #51 Last Edit: August 28, 2018, 11:06:46 AM by Ian Dugan
Ian woke up in his cabin, in his bed.  He felt ... warm ... for the first time in what seemed like a long while.  He vaguely remember something about the Baroness.  Something to do with another ship's crew.  He could'nt actually remember doing anything, but he knew he had been there.

He remembered something else too.  Something about his ship.

Then it came to him.  Lin was going to help him get the Glory back.

He smiled his crooked smile and stood.  He staggered a bit then caught his balance.  He had been sick and mostly out of it for the past few weeks.

Now he was better.

He dressed and left the cabin that he shared with Abe and walked to Ops by way of the galley.  He poured a cup of coffee and continued on his way.  Once he arrived he sat and watched those in the area as he listened to Lin lay out the job.

He felt that if he going to be Captain again he'd have to do a better job of keeping his head in the game.

Lin Kuei

Lin listened to the questions as they bounced around before he answered. "Nat, I'll stay in touch through my commband." He tapped his wrist before continuing. "If everyone thinks going in the front door of the casino is problematic, there is always the railing for the walkway furthermost from the cliffside. Is Monty the only one good with a blowtorch? I figure you might be able to cut a hole in the railing near the side of the bank and enter that way. Explosives are too noisy but cutting your way through may not be."

Lin turned to Vega and shook his head. "I have no information on the front doors unfortunately. I agree that getting weapons into the casino will be difficult. It might have to be non-firearms and probably non-metal too like polymers. I believe Miss Reale can carry herself off as a Companion. Any one else have any ideas?"

Ian Dugan

Ian thought a moment.

"Lin, I'll make myself available to you with the Blaze.
It will make it easier to get away with two vehicles instead of just one."

Lin Kuei

Lin listened to Ian's statement and nodded. "That would certainly work. I am fine with Blaze either being used at the estate for a get away or at the casino to make things easier to gain access." He paused for a moment as he pondered something.

"In fact, using Blaze for the casino is the better option. It makes escape and arrival that much easier. You can drop people off out of site and then swing around below the cliff line before 'surfacing' in order gain access to the roof of the bank perhaps." The three dimension modeler shifted as it showed the roof of the bank more clearly. Zooming in, the air ventilation shaft was evident.

"Someone small or thin enough might be able to gain entrance there and open the door to the walkway or perhaps the front door. ... What does everyone else think?" Lin took a step back to give them all a better look.

Ian Dugan

Ian nodded his understanding of Lin's suggestion.  It was a better use of his shuttle.  At the mention of someone small he first thought of Abe, but she was pregnant.  He looked over at her.  He would stand by any decision she made.  He felt she knew her limitations.

Abenette Kelker

Abe was happy to see Ian finally up and around.  It had been a rough time for him being sick and all.  What a pair the two of them were.  Morning sickness combined with regular illness.  Kinda funny actually.

She moved to stand at Ian's side as she heard the job being laid out.

"Someone small or thin enough might be able to gain entrance there and open the door to the walkway or perhaps the front door. ... What does everyone else think?"

She could do that.

"I'm small and thin.  It doesn't look like it would be a tight fit for me.  I might be able to bring some smaller handguns down with me, so we could get armed without having to come in blazing through the front door."

She smiled brightly at them all.

"I can be the Santa Claus who brings toys to all the good, bank robbing boys and girls!"

She slipped her hand into Ian's and gave it a squeeze.

"This will be fun!" she whispered to him.

Jerilyn Gordon

Jeri nodded at the various discussions going on.

"If you took a shoulder bag, tie a rope to the strap, long enough to reach your feet, you could stock it with more than a few handguns. Explosives even, if that's needed. Tie it around your waist so it follows you through the duct."

Lin Kuei

Lin nodded at the additional suggestions. "Abe, if you think you can do it then it is on you to handle. Ian, you're in the shuttle. I'm thinking Jeri and Vega are in the shuttle with Ian so they can jump out as needed to help. Monty, Iris and Helena in the casino. Nat waits with Ronin while I hit the estate." After a few moments, Lin raised an eyebrow. "Wait, scrap part of that. I want Helena on the ship just in case someone finds it. This allows her to protect Nat if needed while I am at the estate."

Lin looked around the group as they stood there watching. He nodded again as Summerfair became even closer as they closed to it. "Let's get rolling. No time. ... Nat, get us close enough to the location but far enough away we can move Ronin closer without attracting too much attention. Say fifty miles so we can shortjump on thrusters to be within fifteen to twenty miles just before midnight. Ian, before we lift off to reposition Blaze lifts off to make your team's move."

Within the next hour, Ronin had set down in the forest roughly fifty-five miles behind a ridge. Lin went into his quarters during the trip dirtside. He did a serious stretching routine for most of the trip. Just before touching down, he changed into an all black outfit, prepared some small throwing weapons including gathering his sticks, and then tucked a balaclava inside a pocket on his hip.

When Ronin touched down, Lin promptly exited his cabin and went to the cargo bay. Tapping the comm, he spoke quickly. "This is the Captain. We are on the ground. I'm going to kill the cargo bay lights and open the door. Anyone who wants the fresh pine air should come grab some perform we start the actual job." From the doorway, Lin shut off the lights and pressed the button to open the cargo door. As soon as it started to open, the breezy cool pine air filled the cargo bay and started to fill up the ship.

Natascha Santiago-Negron

Nat saluted Lin, giving him an "Aye, cap'n," before grinning at Helena.

"Looks like it's gonna be a girls' night in tonight, huh? This'll be fun- we can stay up late, paint each other's nails, swap stories about boys we've got crushes on~"

She left with a smirk and an exaggerated eye roll, heading towards the cockpit.

They touched down with little fuss, and shortly after the cargo doors opened she was already halfway to the bay.

"Everything's shiny up front, cap'n," Nat called down from the catwalk, bounding down to get a taste of that fresh ground-side air. Oxygen recyclers were a miracle, but even someone who preferred the sky like her could get tired of the stale taste of it after a while.
